3AM (LA LA LA) - Confidence Man

Confidence Man have always thrived on being gloriously extra, and 3AM (LA LA LA) is them doubling down on that philosophy with zero apologies. This third album is a glitter bomb of dance music nostalgia—pulling hard from 90s and early 2000s club culture but twisting it into something so bold, cheeky, and theatrical that it could only come from Janet Planet and Sugar Bones. It’s part rave, part piss-take, part genuine homage—and it works because Confidence Man never try to be “cool.” They’re too busy making you dance like your life depends on it.
The record opens with “WHO KNOWS WHAT YOU’LL FIND?”—a proper Euro-trance explosion that feels like stepping onto a festival field just as the sun sets. From there, it swerves hard into “SICKO”, which snarls with industrial grit, proving they’re just as comfortable stomping around the warehouse as they are floating above it. Then there’s “SO WHAT” and “I CAN’T LOSE YOU”, both pure sugar-rush bangers designed for maximum hands-in-the-air euphoria. If you were worried they’d lost their knack for anthems—don’t.
What makes Confidence Man so addictive is their camp theatricality. Janet’s vocals are sultry one minute and bratty the next, sliding into new genres like she’s trying on outfits at a late-night thrift store. Sugar Bones balances her with his sardonic, tongue-in-cheek swagger, dropping lines that sound equal parts sleazy and hilarious. Together, they’re like the chaotic hosts of the wildest house party you’ve ever been to.
The beauty of 3AM (LA LA LA) lies in its balance of chaos and precision. The beats are razor-sharp, the basslines could flatten a building, and yet there’s this sense of spontaneity—as if the whole record was born from late-night delirium and glitter-stained notebooks. Even the closer, the breathy, atmospheric title track, serves as a comedown: that hazy, blissful moment after the rave where the adrenaline fades but the memories glow neon in your chest.
Sure, Confidence Man aren’t delivering profound poetry here. But who cares? That’s not the point. This isn’t a record to overthink—it’s one to feel. It’s sweaty strangers hugging on the dancefloor. It’s shouting nonsense lyrics at 2 a.m. with your best mates. It’s sequins, strobe lights, and pure serotonin bottled in sound. 3AM (LA LA LA) isn’t just an album—it’s an invite to the best night out of your life.
