Eternal Sunshine by Ariana Grande: Review
Ariana Grande’s latest album, Eternal Sunshine, is a heartfelt and fresh comeback that feels as personal as it does powerful. After a four-year break, she’s returned with a stunning blend of pop, R&B, disco, and house, channeling all the emotions of love, heartbreak, and growth. Inspired by the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, the album dives into themes of memory and moving forward, all wrapped in Ariana’s signature vocal magic.
The journey kicks off with "intro (end of the world)", a dreamy, violin-filled track that sets a reflective, almost cinematic tone. From there, songs like "bye" and "don’t wanna break up again" bring breakup angst with beats you can still move to, while the title track "eternal sunshine" and "we can’t be friends" deliver that perfect mix of raw emotion and upbeat vibes.
A standout moment is "Supernatural", a lush and dreamy duet with Troye Sivan that’s equal parts tender and sultry, especially in the duet version’s lyrics. Then there’s "the boy is mine", a cheeky, Y2K-inspired R&B track that fires back at tabloid rumors with playful confidence.
Critics are loving the album’s stripped-back approach. Ariana dials down the vocal theatrics and focuses more on storytelling, making tracks like "yes, and?" and "true story" feel raw and relatable as they tackle her experience with fame and media pressure. The album wraps up beautifully with "ordinary things", where Ariana shares her grandmother’s heartfelt advice about life and love—a warm, grounding way to close the emotional journey.
With its seamless flow, honest lyrics, and a mix of introspective moments and dancefloor-ready bangers, Eternal Sunshine feels like Ariana opening up her diary, but in a way that everyone can connect to. At just under her usual runtime, it’s being praised as one of her most mature and thoughtfully crafted albums yet. Ariana is evolving, and this album proves she’s only getting better.
