“Morphus” by Abøn: Review
Danish-Canadian artist Abøn is back with “Morphus,” the mesmerising first single from her upcoming album Wings of Adelaine. Inspired by the Morpho butterfly, one of the largest and most breathtaking butterflies in the world, “Morphus” is a song about grace in the midst of transformation, finding beauty in change, and embracing the unknown with open arms.
Abøn has a gift for crafting music that transports listeners to otherworldly places, and this track is no exception. With her ethereal vocals, cinematic production, and deeply introspective lyrics, “Morphus” feels like a dream you don’t want to wake up from—a sonic metamorphosis that mirrors the very theme of the new album.
At its core, Wings of Adelaine is an exploration of death and dying, but not in the way we typically perceive it. Abøn approaches the subject not with fear, but with reverence—offering a perspective where death is not an end, but a transformation, much like a butterfly emerging from its cocoon. It’s about the journey from land to sky, shedding old forms to step into something new.
For Abøn, this is deeply personal. Having experienced loss from a young age, she’s spent years reshaping her understanding of mortality, seeking a way to find peace in the inevitable. Through her music, she invites listeners to do the same—to see endings as beginnings, to embrace the cycles of life with wonder rather than fear.

The full album, Wings of Adelaine, will be released June 6th, and “Morphus” sets the tone beautifully for what’s to come. Abøn’s music defies easy categorization—it’s a blend of cinematic soundscapes, avant-garde folk, and ethereal alt-pop, stitched together with the kind of delicate intricacy that feels both ancient and futuristic at once. Her work is an invitation to slow down, to listen deeply, and to let the music carry you somewhere beyond the physical world. “Morphus” will be accompanied by a music video, worldwide radio delivery, and online campaigns, ensuring this transformative piece reaches as many ears as possible.
Abøn (born Lauren Pedersen) has followed an artistic path as unconventional as her music. Starting as a ballet dancer, she later transitioned into the world of science, before finally finding her true home in music composition and production. This multidisciplinary background shines through in her work—there’s a sense of movement, depth, and storytelling in her songs, as if each note is choreographed with intention.
After years of writing and performing with the vocal trio The Willows, Abøn struck out on her own, creating a sound that amplifies the quiet voices of the world—the whispers of trees, the hum of ants working in harmony, the echoes of ancestral wisdom and dreamscapes. Now, with “Morphus,” she offers a deeply personal yet universally resonant meditation on life, death, and the spaces in between.
If you’re drawn to music that feels like a portal to another realm, “Morphus” is one you don’t want to miss.
