“Some Strange” - Trashy Annie

Trashy Annie’s new single “Some Strange” is not here to make you feel cozy. It’s not a tender love song. It’s not a radio-polished, autotuned earworm. What it is, however, is a whiskey-drenched, leather-studded gut-punch of a rock anthem that smells like gasoline, heartbreak, and last night’s cigarettes — in the best way possible.
Straight outta Austin and straight into the fire, frontwoman Annie Davis — teaming up for the first time with the legendary Thommy Price (yes, that Thommy Price — drummer for Joan Jett, Billy Idol) — kicks open the saloon doors with this track and dares anyone to tell her to sit down and behave. Spoiler: you won’t.
Released on June 13, 2025, “Some Strange” is the second single from the band’s upcoming full-length album Let It Kill You. The song grabs your ears from the first dirty riff and doesn’t let go, tearing through four-and-a-half minutes of lust-fueled abandon and outlaw swagger. It's rock and roll stripped to the bone — sweaty, loud, and gloriously unapologetic.
The guitars (courtesy of Mark Younger-Smith and a stacked lineup of players) snarl and growl with a sexy kind of menace, while the drums punch like a bar brawl. The rhythm section holds it down like they’ve lived through this song more than once.
And then there’s Annie Davis. Her voice? It’s raw. It’s real. It's soaked in smoke and Southern grit. She doesn’t just sing the story of “Some Strange” — she owns it. You can practically hear the smirk in her delivery, equal parts defiant and vulnerable, as she channels every messed-up romance and regretful rendezvous into one blistering performance. There’s a bite behind her lyrics that only comes from living a little rough — and wearing it like a badge of honor.

Production-wise, it’s as gritty as the subject matter deserves. Co-produced by Davis herself alongside Jeff Lusby-Breault, PH Naffah, and Chris “Frenchie” Smith (who also mixed it), the track feels like it was meant to be played loud — like, neighbors-calling-the-cops loud. And mastering legend Dave McNair makes sure every note hits just right without ever sanding down the edges. This is rock how it used to be made: messy, real, and bleeding heart-first onto the mic.
So what makes “Some Strange” stand out in 2025? Simple: it doesn’t give a damn about trends. In an era when everyone’s trying to chase viral hooks and algorithm-friendly soundbites, Trashy Annie is tearing pages from the old rock rulebook and setting them on fire. It’s bold, it’s brash, and it’s got the kind of don’t-care energy that’s been sorely missing from the modern music scene.
If this is just the second single from Let It Kill You, buckle up. Trashy Annie isn’t just reviving rock — they’re drag-racing it through the Texas night with a bottle of Jack in the glovebox and no rearview mirror. And if “Some Strange” is any indication, the album’s going to leave a trail of scorched earth in its wake.
This one’s not for the faint of heart. It’s for the outlaws, the romantics with regrets, the barflies, the heartbreakers — and anyone who still believes that music should make you feel something wild.
Play it loud. And then play it louder.
