“Medicine” - Siren Section

After two decades of experimenting at the edges of sound, Los Angeles-based duo SIREN SECTION (James Cumberland and John Dowling) have distilled their craft into something both unsettling and strangely comforting. Their new single Medicine is a prime example of the genre-bending world they’ve built — a place they’ve dubbed glitchgaze, where shoegaze’s wall of sound collides with electronic abstraction and raw experimental rock.
Medicine is a paradox in motion: hypnotic yet jagged, heavy yet meditative, noisy yet inviting. The track cycles between claustrophobic tension and waves of cathartic release, pulling listeners into a loop that feels both disorienting and cleansing. It’s the kind of song that doesn’t resolve in a traditional sense — instead, it lingers, echoing in the body long after it ends, like the afterglow of a storm.
What makes the track even more intriguing is the way SIREN SECTION frame their work. Their sound isn’t just about music — it’s part of a broader aesthetic universe: glitch-heavy visuals, warped photography, and a kind of tragic techno-futurism that grapples with modern alienation and fragile humanity. They’re not afraid to embrace relatable sadness, but they filter it through psychedelic textures that make the melancholy feel expansive rather than suffocating.
Following on the heels of their earlier single Glass Cannon, Medicine continues to map out the sonic and emotional terrain of their forthcoming concept album Separation Team (due later this year). Where Glass Cannon hinted at fragility under pressure, Medicine explores the cycles of breakdown and relief, suggesting that healing doesn’t come in clean lines but through distortion, repetition, and release.

It’s rare to find music that can feel simultaneously abrasive and beautiful, but that’s exactly where SIREN SECTION thrive. Fans of shoegaze, industrial electronics, or even cinematic sound design will find themselves at home here — though “home” in this case feels like a futuristic ruin lit by neon and memory.
With Medicine, SIREN SECTION prove once again that they’re not just making songs — they’re building an immersive emotional environment. And if this single is any indication, Separation Team is set to be one of those records that doesn’t just soundtrack late nights but reshapes them.
