Tarn PK’s latest EP, F.O.M.O, might just be the perfect soundtrack to the beautiful mess of millennial burnout, digital overwhelm, and existential career angst — all wrapped in sleek production and painfully relatable lyrics. The Wellington, New Zealand-based producer, songwriter, and sonic world-builder has a knack for making emotion feel futuristic. And on this project, he leans all the way into that tension — giving us both chaos and clarity.
If you’re not already familiar, Tarn’s previous work (from SugarCoated to Monarch) has always hovered in that sweet spot between vulnerability and innovation — kind of like if James Blake grew up in NZ and listened to a lot of early 2000s pop, but also studied cinematic sound design in his free time. He’s built a loyal following (2.2 million streams and counting), and it’s easy to see why. His songs aren’t just songs — they’re little immersive universes.
F.O.M.O, the EP, is no exception.
The title track sets the tone for what’s to come. Sonically, it’s fragmented rhythms whilst lyrically, Tarn taps into something all too familiar: that gnawing feeling that you’re falling behind.
From there, we slide into “Cry Baby,” a moody, melody-soaked cut that feels like a slow descent into introspection. This one’s heavy with atmospheric textures and watery vocal layering — a track that lands somewhere between self-critique and self-soothing. It’s catchy, but also emotionally intelligent.
There’s a thematic arc here. Each track peels back another layer of the modern human condition.

F.O.M.O doesn’t leave you in the spiral. The focus track — and the EP’s final number — is “Comfy,” and it’s the emotional exhale. If “F.O.M.O” is all spinning wheels and social anxiety, “Comfy” is the warm blanket of acceptance. It’s soft, it’s hopeful, and it captures that rare but profound feeling of just being okay. The production is gentler, more grounded — almost like the music itself is breathing easier. This is the turning point of the story. The place you get to when you stop chasing, and just are.
Tarn says he knew from early on that “F.O.M.O” and “Comfy” would bookend the EP — and it’s a masterstroke. They form a complete emotional journey, one that moves from fear and restlessness to peace and presence. It’s not preachy or wrapped in a bow, but it feels honest. And that’s what makes it work.
“Comfy" has also made Spotify's editorial "hits different" global playlist which has 600k Followers — and we can understand why.
From a production standpoint, the whole EP is extremely polished. There’s an experimental flair here — glitchy rhythms, pitch-shifted vocals, dreamy pads — but it never feels self-indulgent. Everything serves the song, and the story. Tarn PK continues to defy genres, but more importantly, he continues to make music that actually means something.
With F.O.M.O, he’s created a capsule of modern discontent — but also a gentle reminder that it’s okay to slow down, unplug, and find comfort in where you are.
