“You.Know.Want” - We Have Ghosts

We Have Ghosts aren’t here to make you comfortable. Their new single You.Know.Want is a blood-smeared post-punk therapy session — jagged, bitter, and beautifully raw. If you're still trying to get over that relationship, that lie, that version of yourself you pretended to be… this track's gonna crack your ribs open, crawl in, and scream along with you.

Built on slashing guitars, venom-drenched vocals, and a rhythm section that hits like concrete, You.Know.Want pulls no punches. It leans into 90s alt-rock chaos but with a very modern sneer — a kind of sonic lo-fi truth bomb that spits in your face and dares you to look away.

The spoken-word vocal cadence is a standout — part Mark E. Smith, part Slint, part someone on the edge of breakdown in a bathroom mirror. It’s not sung, it’s confessed — like a diary entry you were never meant to hear, poured out over sharp riffs and seismic bursts of noise. There’s a reason they say it's a "breakup with delusion" — the track sounds like the exact moment you finally stop pretending, even if it hurts like hell.

There’s real emotional dirt under the fingernails of this song. It’s about calling out dishonesty, but not just from others — from yourself, too. That moment when you realize everything's been a performance, and you're the lead actor in your own farce. It’s painful. But it’s liberating. As the band puts it:

“It’s bitter. But it’s also honest.”

This isn’t performative rage. It’s reckoning. And yeah, it gets loud — beautifully, purposefully loud. Because sometimes shouting is the only way to clear the smoke.

Don’t let the raw aesthetic fool you — this is intentional. Tracked and mixed by Lewis Brookes at DeadBasic Studios (Manchester) and mastered by Ben Pike at RareTone (Leeds), You.Know.Want is sonically unpolished in all the right ways. It's got dirt in its teeth and static in its veins. Think early Sonic Youth meets METZ meets the ghost of Fugazi’s tape deck.

This is also the first peek into a new EP that’s very much alive and on its way. And with the addition of Juan Sanchez on drums and Sam Edwards on bass, there's a new bite in the band’s sound — sharper, faster, heavier. Still grounded in Benjamin Mace-Crossley’s vision, but more volatile. More dangerous.

Following the atmospheric unrest of Amygdala Algorithm and the sharp emotional edges of Red Wall Colliers, You.Know.Want keeps pushing We Have Ghosts into new territory — without losing an ounce of their core identity. They're still DIY, still disruptive, still deliberately imperfect in the best ways.

This isn’t music built for playlists. It’s built for rooms that are too small, amps that are too loud, and crowds that want to feel something real again.

If you’ve ever sat in the car after an argument and let your emotions explode to the beat of distortion — this song is your song.

If you’ve ever wanted to burn the mask and show the world who’s actually underneath — this track is your soundtrack.

You.Know.Want is ugly, defiant, beautiful, and real. It's a mirror, and it doesn't flatter. But god, does it reflect.
