In a quiet corner of Culzean Castle’s second-hand bookshop, a notice board gathers fragments of forgotten lives—old receipts, love notes, photographs, letters, postcards—it was here that Yvonne Lyon first felt the spark of an idea. And now, seven years later, that idea has blossomed into Things Found In Books—an album written and recorded with Boo Hewerdine, weaving music from these delicate remnants of memory.
Set for release on March 7, 2025, Things Found In Books is more than just an album—it’s a celebration of ordinary lives and fleeting moments, wrapped in the warmth of nostalgia. In keeping with its inspiration, the physical edition is being given special care, arriving as a beautifully crafted hardback bespoke CD book—a tangible keepsake that feels as treasured as the stories behind it.
Boo Hewerdine and Yvonne Lyon are no strangers to the art of storytelling through song. Together, they have built an inimitable songwriting partnership—one that captures both the quiet poetry of everyday life and the deep emotions that lie beneath it.
Boo Hewerdine is an Ivor Novello Award-nominated songwriter, best known for writing Patience of Angels, a hit for Eddi Reader in 1995, and producing Reader’s acclaimed album Sings the Songs of Robert Burns in 2003. Now based in Glasgow, Boo is regarded as one of the finest songwriter-performers of his generation.
Yvonne Lyon is one of the UK’s most gifted singer-songwriters, known for her evocative voice and deeply moving lyrics. With ten solo albums to her name—including her most recent, Growing Wild—she has appeared on BBC Radio 2 with Bob Harris and even completed a Master’s Degree in Songwriting and Performance from the University of the West of Scotland.

Together, they have created something truly special—an album that brings the lost, the forgotten, and the half-remembered back to life.
There’s something deeply human about the things we tuck away inside books—the scribbled reminders, the pressed flowers, the train tickets from a trip long past. Things Found In Books captures the beauty in these small moments, turning them into songs that echo with both familiarity and mystery.
As Yvonne Lyon puts it:
“As humans, we often try to define our stories, arranging and rearranging our histories. We are inveterate meaning makers. We need stories in our lives and we find significance in them. Like old photographs in an album or on a wall, we treasure our memories, our love, our grief, our joy and our pain. Sometimes we choose to remember, sometimes we choose to forget. Sometimes we put them in a book.”
And sometimes, as Things Found In Books so beautifully proves, those forgotten fragments find their way back to us—through music.
This is an album for story lovers, for memory keepers, for those who find magic in the ordinary. Maybe, just maybe, you’ll find a piece of your own story within its songs.
