Noam Shapira’s latest album, New Old Music, dropped on December 27, 2024, and it’s exactly what you’d expect from a musician with over 15 years of experience and a deep connection with his collaborators. Based in NYC but deeply influenced by his roots and life journey, Noam has crafted a sound that blends pop, rock, classical, and jazz in a way that feels both fresh and timeless.

The album features Guy Moscovish on piano, Oren Hardy on bass, and Alon Benjamini on drums—musicians who’ve been part of Noam’s creative journey for over a decade. These guys aren’t just bandmates; they’re long-time friends who have shaped each other’s sound. Noam wrote every track specifically for them, making the whole album feel like an intimate jam session, filled with chemistry and heart.

The album was inspired by Noam’s journey from Israel to New York, and all the change and growth that came with it. But the real kicker came from a dream Noam had, where he was a tiger and had an epiphany to follow his true calling. This moment pushed Noam to fully embrace his musical path, leading to the creation of New Old Music—a bold, authentic album that captures his true self.

The album was recorded in Tel Aviv during a spontaneous, relaxed session. “It was a day of just playing the compositions and having fun. We didn't intend to make an album and that’s what gave the music more of a loose feeling.’’ There’s a sense of freedom in every track, where nothing feels forced but everything feels deliberate.

What really makes New Old Music stand out is its genre-blending style. Noam mixes pop, rock, and classical elements into a jazzy foundation, creating a sound that’s familiar yet totally unique. It’s the kind of album that hooks you right away and keeps you coming back for more.

Noam’s also keeping the live energy flowing, playing regularly at Café Ornithology in NYC. As for what drives him as an artist, he shares this piece of advice from his teacher: "Whatever you play, no matter how complex, you always make it sound beautiful." That simple yet powerful philosophy is what gives New Old Music its soul—complex yet accessible, deep yet effortlessly beautiful.

At its core, New Old Music is all about transformation, being true to yourself, and the magic of collaboration. From Noam’s wild tiger dream to the laid-back, spontaneous recording sessions in Tel Aviv, the album is a personal journey of self-discovery and creative expression. It’s the kind of record that tells a story you didn’t even know you needed to hear—but once you do, it’s the kind that stays with you.
