The Antelope - Koala Bar

Koala Bar’s latest release, The Antelope, is a heady, immersive dive into the dreamlike haze of alternative psychedelia.
This is a band building something from the ground up, hacking their way through the overgrown forests of their own soundscapes, reshaping them into something fresh, something raw, something entirely their own.
The seeds of The Antelope were planted years ago when Koala Bar first met with producer Leon den Engelsen. Their initial plans to collaborate fell through, but sometimes, things happen exactly when they’re meant to. Fast forward a few years, and with a new batch of songs and a hunger to push boundaries, the band sought out Leon once again.
His studio, tucked away on the edge of the breathtaking Söderåsen nature reserve in Scania, Sweden, became more than just a recording space—it became an essential part of the EP’s DNA. You can hear the influence of the natural surroundings in the expansive, atmospheric soundscapes, where space and silence are used as instruments just as much as synths and guitars.

Imagine an intense, ongoing beach tennis match, with ideas being volleyed back and forth, evolving with each return. This wasn’t just about recording songs—it was about discovering new ways to make them breathe, twist, and transform.
If The Antelope sounds like an escape into nature, its lyrics pull you right back into the stark reality of the present. The band has taken a sharp turn from their previous youthful naivety, diving deep into themes of self-loathing, societal disillusionment, and the weight of the modern world.
Koala Bar’s The Antelope is more than just an alternative psychedelic EP—it’s a raw, unfiltered document of a band exploring new terrain, both sonically and personally. It’s the sound of reinvention, of breaking free from comfort zones, and of channeling disillusionment into something hauntingly beautiful.
For fans of Radiohead’s moodier moments, Tame Impala’s dreamy textures, and the existential weight of classic post-rock, The Antelope is a must-listen. It’s an invitation to step into the woods, lose yourself for a while, and come out seeing the world just a little differently.
