“For You” - Just Arrogant Animals

Just Arrogant Animals might sound like the name of your favorite chaotic group chat, but in reality, it’s a genre-bending, emotionally-charged music project born in the scenic heart of Kawartha Lakes, Canada. Formed by longtime friends and sonic adventurers Kyle Knowles and Pat Sabyan, the duo has been on a mission since 2022 to explore the edges of musical expression—and if their latest single “For You” is any indication, they’re doing a damn good job of it.
Released on July 11, 2025, “For You” is a love letter — but not in the mushy, candlelit kind of way. It’s more like a mixtape you’d find in a shoebox years after a relationship ended, only to realize you’re smiling at the memories instead of crying. This isn’t a song about heartbreak; it’s about gratitude. Gratitude for the people who walked alongside us, shaped us, and helped us become who we are—even if they’re no longer in our orbit.
From the very first note, you can hear the chemistry between Kyle and Pat. These guys get each other. Kyle lays down melodic guitar lines that dance between melancholy and optimism, with bass grooves so intertwined it’s like they were stitched together from the same thread. Vocally, Kyle doesn’t overreach—he’s honest, warm, and raw in the best way. You believe every word because he’s not trying to sound perfect. He’s just trying to tell the truth.
Pat Sabyan’s drums don’t just support the song—they talk back. His style is a tasty Frankenstein of Phil Collins’ melodic sensibilities and Terry Bozzio’s mad scientist intricacy.
“For You” was recorded at Haggarty Sound Studio in Peterborough, Ontario, and that local energy really comes through.
And the storytelling? That’s where the song really shines. It’s easy to write a sad song about loss. It’s a lot harder to write one about acceptance and appreciation—especially without sounding preachy or overly sentimental. But Just Arrogant Animals strikes that balance beautifully. They remind us that not every relationship has to end in bitterness. Some just evolve. And some leave a legacy of joy and growth worth holding onto.
Musically, if you're into Frank Zappa’s refusal to color inside the lines, or Rage Against the Machine’s emotional charge, or even Phil Collins’ thoughtful pop-rock craftsmanship, you’ll find familiar touches here. But Just Arrogant Animals aren’t mimicking anyone—they’re curating their own sound, a blend of rock, alternative, emotional grit, and progressive experimentation, all held together with honesty and heart.
“For You” feels like the kind of track you stumble upon at the exact right time. It doesn’t hit you over the head. It just finds a quiet corner of your brain, sets up camp, and stays there. It’s reflective, powerful, and deeply human—kind of like the band itself.
So yeah, they might call themselves Just Arrogant Animals. But after this track? They’ve earned the right to be a little arrogant. And a whole lot unforgettable.
