‘The Turnaround’ - Daniel de Boer

If there was ever an EP that sounds like it was recorded with the whole world watching—and listening—it’s Daniel de Boer’s The Turnaround.

This isn’t just a six-song project. It’s a musical mosaic, stitched together from different corners of the planet and bound by a shared love for organic sound, deep grooves, and emotional storytelling. Acoustic pop at its core, but dressed in delicate layers of global influence, progressive detail, and electronic brushstrokes, this is music that moves—literally and emotionally.

Most of the EP was written and produced in Berlin (a city that knows how to mix grit with grace), in collaboration with producer Shakthi Prasad. But don’t let that geography fool you—the sound is anything but local.

Musicians from India, Russia, Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Palestine, Jordan, and more all left fingerprints on this record. And you can hear it in every phrase. There’s a warmth, a curiosity, and a kind of unspoken unity that comes through when people from vastly different places are all playing from the same emotional page.

Let’s talk about The Way for a second. This song is where the acoustic-pop-meets-global-soul mission really hits home. Indian guitarist Varun Raj lays down this gorgeously subtle guitar work—an intricate dance of Indian flavors and prog-rock ambition. It's never flashy, just felt—the kind of guitar playing that makes you lean in.

The production breathes. The vocals glide. And that solo in the middle? Beautiful. It’s the perfect midpoint between introspection and takeoff.

The EP closes with Beside Me, a slow-burning track that somehow feels both intimate and cinematic. It’s the kind of song that sneaks up on you emotionally—gentle at first, but it stays with you long after it’s over.

There’s a music video too, shot by Italian filmmaker/musician Luca Bordonaro (go watch it here). The visuals are as artful and emotionally tuned as the track itself.

Also: Marcelo Woloski from Snarky Puppy is on percussion here. So the grooves are as tasteful as you’d expect.

Daniel handles vocals and bass like a pro with a soft touch—confident but never overdone. He's backed by a seriously gifted group of players, including: Christian Dias, Pablo Marino and Bruno Fidelis on guitar, Isaac Wisdom on piano, Shaden Nahra on violin (seriously adds some magic), Lourdes Trujillo with smooth backing vocals, and many others.

It was all wrapped up and mastered at AIR Studios in London by Henry Rudkins, giving the final polish to an already beautifully crafted sound.

In a music landscape filled with over-polished, over-engineered, hyper-commercial tracks, The Turnaround feels like a breath of fresh, globally scented air. It’s not trying to be the biggest. It’s not trying to be the loudest. It’s just trying to be real—and it succeeds.

There’s space in these songs. Space to think. Space to feel. Space to breathe.

If you’re into acoustic pop that’s thoughtful, textured, and globally conscious, this EP is for you. It’s for the listener who likes Bon Iver but wishes he had a tabla player. For the fan of soft-spoken vocals who also craves musical passport stamps. For the quiet nights, long walks, and moments where you just need music to meet you where you are.

The Turnaround isn’t just an EP. It’s an invitation—to slow down, tune in, and listen to what the world sounds like when everyone brings their whole self to the table.

And honestly? That’s a sound worth turning up.
