“Blurry Face” - Ari Joshua Ft. John Medeski & Billy Martin

Jazz-heads, groove freaks, and experimental music lovers, take note: Ari Joshua just dropped an improvised gem that captures pure musical telepathy. Dropped on April 25th, 2025 via Music Factory Records, “Blurry Face” is raw, unrehearsed, and completely alive—featuring none other than John Medeski (organ/clavinet) and Billy Martin (drums), two-thirds of the iconic Medeski Martin & Wood.

This is not your average studio single. It’s lightning in a bottle—a first-take, no-overdubs session tracked live at Applehead Studios that locks into a hypnotic, gritty groove and refuses to let go.

It all started with a loop from Billy Martin’s Loops from the Underground collection—earthy, percussive, a little mysterious. From there, the trio didn’t just play over it—they communed over it. This track breathes. It morphs. It rides the line between structure and chaos in that delicious way only seasoned improvisers can pull off.

John Medeski brings that signature clavinet crunch and psychedelic organ warmth, firing on all cylinders like it’s 1999 again. Meanwhile, Ari Joshua’s guitar tone is sumptious as always. A glorious blend of fuzzed-out funk and articulate phrasing that dances around the beat like it’s walking a tightrope blindfolded—but never missing a step.

There’s no bass guitar here, but you won’t miss it. Medeski handles the low end like a magician, laying down subterranean textures while Billy Martin’s rhythm weaves polyrhythms and pulses that feel both ancient and future-forward.

Ari Joshua on Working with Medeski & Martin:

“You never know when your dreams may come true, you plant a seed and it just may bring a great tree. If you do it right, the tree may bring sweet fruits—and more seeds for more trees.”

If you're into Medeski Martin & Wood, or even if you're just craving something unfiltered and real, this track hits the spot. It’s like sitting in on a secret session between old friends who trust the groove more than any roadmap. There’s no showing off here—just feel, flow, and fearless exploration.

For fans of live jazz improv, funky psychedelic jam sessions, and genre-defying compositions that evolve in real-time, “Blurry Face” scratches an itch modern music rarely even reaches for anymore.

Alongside the release, Music Factory Records is offering a free downloadable play-along version of the track, complete with sheet music. Yup—you can jam with Medeski & Martin (and Joshua!), upload your take, and even get feedback. It's like a musical open mic meets jazz masterclass.

This is also the first release via MFR’s new website, and they’re celebrating by building a community around the art—not just a product. For fans, players, and curious listeners, it’s a chance to engage with the music in a fresh, interactive way.

Ari Joshua, Medeski and Martin create one-take groove magic. No fluff. No fixes. Just three legends talking through sound.

“Blurry Face” is funky, loose, spiritual, and alive—and it might just plant a seed in you too.
