Hailing from Leeds, England, Tillerman are more than just a band—they’re a brotherhood. Founded by Jon and Tom Kulczycki and their longtime buddy Shaun Mallia, these guys have been jamming together for over 20 years. You can feel that palpable deep-rooted chemistry in every song they create. Their sound is a mix of the best of the 60s, 70s, and BritPop, with a bit of UK Indie thrown in for good measure. They blend nostalgia with something fresh, making music that feels both timeless and totally their own.
On March 14, 2025, Tillerman finally dropped something they've been working on for over a decade—their new track and video, "Room to Breathe." This one’s extra special. It’s a poetic look at growing up, finding love, and chasing those big dreams, all set against a unique structure—no traditional chorus, just a smooth, free-flowing energy that stands out in the best way.
“Room to Breathe” started off as a simple idea. Jon wrote the first verse and bridge in a side room, demoed it, and let it sit for a while. Even when the band took a break, the melody never really left them. In 2019, after reuniting, they knew it was time to bring it to life.
It’s more like a musical monologue than a traditional song. They were inspired by classics like "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Stairway to Heaven", which both break the typical song structure. The challenge was to keep listeners engaged without relying on a catchy chorus.

Tillerman’s past tracks like "Rollercoaster," "Rainbow," and "My Eden" were all about big, catchy hooks and that indie pop energy. Room to Breathe is different. It’s the kind of track that asks you to slow down, take it all in, and let it grow.
“Room to Breathe is a track that we would probably say is a better song than all of those,” says Jon. “Maybe our best, but it's one you have to commit to, one that you have to let grow to understand to fully appreciate, similar to a classical piece.”
Songwriting is all about finding that perfect line that sticks with people. While Jon admits "No one’s ever going to top ‘If I hadn’t seen such riches, I could live with being poor’" from James' "Sit Down", he’s proud of the line from “Room to Breathe” that’s already hitting home with fans:
"Gonna change the world, until he meets a girl."
If you're looking for something real, raw, and different, give “Room to Breathe” a listen. This isn’t just a song—it’s a decade-long journey and a story you’ll want to hear.
“Room to Breathe” is available now on all major streaming platforms
